Director's Statement: Brazil, often reduced to soccer, carnival, and its natural beauties, leads us to question: what is the real Brazil? What image truly represents us as a people? As directors, representing diverse Brazilian roots and cultures, Carol from Bahia and Helder from Brasília, we have the mission to create images that reinforce the importance of having a united country, highlighting the visual and cinematic elements that make us stronger as a people and as a nation. Our desire for this film, which deals with a polarized Brazil, was to imagine, along with the cast, art direction, and photography, new ways of seeing and portraying the country, even amidst adversities. To illustrate the inequality between regions, we contrast the North of Brazil - with its vibrant colors, scarcity, and cultural richness - with the border, a zone marked by hopelessness and bureaucracy that values only trade, or rather, what can be monetized, ignoring individual needs. Within this backdrop, we created a narrative where there is no longer one unified Brazil. Facing the defeatist scenario present in 2 Brasis, we created a glimmer of hope represented by the figure of Estrela, a black woman in her twenties, who dreams and fights for reunification. Estrela represents a vibrant movement that believes in a Brazil without borders, where the people are sovereign, and therefore calls upon them to decide their own future. We focus much of our camera time in Estrela in an attempt to convey a reunification message through a protagonist who reinforces the importance of always believing in the strength and unity of our nation.
2 Brasis is a captivating action drama exclusively available on Cineshort. Our film centers around a wall that divides Brazil in two, serving as the source of unrest throughout the country. Estrella, the leader of a Revolutionary Group who refuses to accept her nation's division, begins planning an escape from the largest prison in the northern region. She sets her plan into motion, but this will bring other issues to the forefront as well.
The film features incredibly engaging scenes that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I definitely recommend it to action lovers - enjoy the show!
